Charter of Rights for children and young people in care

A Charter of Rights for children and young people in care in the Northern Territory has been developed in conjunction with children, young people, carers and other organisations who work in the Northern Territory to ensure that the rights of children in out of home care are given special attention and promoted.

The Charter outlines the rights that children in care have and what they should expect from those who are caring for them.  It will be the responsibility of the child or young person's Case Manager to ensure the Charter of Rights is provided and explained to the child or young person in a way that they can understand.

A series of fact sheets for staff and carers that explain how they can support children in out of home care to understand their rights has also been developed.
